Biomega® was established in Bergen in 2000 and today consists of
around 60 employees. Over more than two decades, the company
has built a strong professional environment in biotechnology and
bio-based processing, and has developed a patented technology for
continuous enzymatic hydrolysis that enables stable operations and
consistent quality in production. The process is designed to refine
by-products from Atlantic salmon and trout into functional
ingredients, with separation of proteins, oils, and mineral fractions,
among others. Biomega®’s biorefinery at Skaganeset in Øygarden
municipality was built in 2012, and it is there that production takes
place. Biomega® currently supplies ingredients to the aquafeed, pet
food market, and human nutrition, with headquarters at
Marineholmen in Bergen.
